Easy Ways We Can All Be God's "Lights Of The World" To Others

Good day friends, I hope you are all well today!

Today’s message is simple; How we as Christians can become “lights of the world”, meaning I’m going to share some simple ways that can help us all become shining examples of God’s love, kindness, gentleness, forgiveness, and grace for all to see, in order to bring glory and honor to His name.

This is precisely what Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:14-16 when he was preaching to a crowd on a mountainside by the Jordan River one day, that; “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Say what, how can I go out in and amongst the world and be a “light” to others when my lamp was just lit or because of sin my lamp doesn’t shine bright enough?

This is a question many new Christians ask themselves and the question is usually the result of fearing the unknown and also feelings of inadequacy as a result of being new Christians.

Folks, God is a loving motivating, uplifting God so please understand that those negative thoughts of “I can’t do this” or “Who am I to be a good example” etc. is just the Evil One doing what He does, e.g. doing all he can to keep us Christians (new and old alike) in a perpetual state of feeling unworthy, inadequate, fearful, lazy, etc. in order to prevent us from being “lights”.

When we’re being lights we’re shining for all to see, just as God wants. But when we’re not shining we’re dark and in Satan’s eyes this is victory.

But fear not! You see once we accept Christ as our personal Lord and Savior we are immediately covered in a blanket of God’s security and He will never, ever let anything come upon us that He knows we can’t handle…

And being lights of the world is one of them.

Looking at Matthew 5:14-16 we can see it’s really not all that difficult at all, some things just take effort and He tells us two ways we can shine; by doing “good deeds” and praising our Father in heaven.

That doesn’t sound so difficult does it, doing good deeds and giving praise to our Father?

Letting our lights shine

Doing good deeds is pretty self-explanatory but here are some simple gestures of love and kindness that can have a profound effect on others, like:

  1. Buying food or a meal for a family or person in need
  2. Donating food or clothes
  3. Offering your professional services for free to someone in need
  4. Giving blood
  5. Helping a stranded motorist
  6. Volunteering

I could go on-and-on but in the end it’s pretty simple, our actions are one of the easiest ways to let our lights shine bright.

Ah but those I just mentioned are just the beginning, here are some real simple things we can also do:

  1. Showing love to our fellow man, family, friends and strangers alike
  2. Speaking words of encouragement and not discouragement
  3. Hugging someone when they need it and not turning away
  4. Smiling always instead of frowning
  5. Giving those who deserve it a pat-on-the-back
  6. Holding your hand out to someone who needs to be lifted-up
  7. Writing a thoughtful letter (not send an email or text) to someone who’s feeling down or discouraged or to just let someone know they're loved and being thought of
  8. Not being afraid to show and tell people you love them (this is so important!)
  9. Giving a simple "God Bless You" to people you encounter; you'll be surprised by the response

Just remember though that we’re giving to others so we should do so with smiles on our faces and cheer in our hearts, otherwise we’re just going through the motions and don’t think for one second that God and those on the receiving end won’t see right through us.

For those Christians who have been around the block a time or two will you please share with us ways you’ve become lights of the world by leaving a comment below?

Thanks all and God Bless!
Dana

A Short Story: Two Brothers, Two Fields, And A Stranger

Image courtesy:  prozac1 Good day all, I hope you are all in good spirits! Today’s message started-out as that, a message. But as I began putting pen to paper  The Lord spoke to me and as a result the message and the way I was going to deliver it today is completely different than what I intended. Instead of a short and simple message on the disadvantages of repetitive prayer, today’s message turned into a short story about prayer and so much more, including how we limit ourselves when only asking for God’s blessings in prayer. It’s the often the little things that can have the biggest impacts on a person’s life, and how lives can be completely changed in one season. Two Brothers, Two Fields, and a Stranger Some time ago an old Christian man, that many looked-up too and admired as a committed man of faith, was about to breathe his last. This old Christian had two sons and he called them in one day to give them each their inheritanc...

Could You Kill Someone Who's Persecuting You?

Image courtesy of  evangelicaloutpost.com It’s no secret now that in Mosul Iraq there are Christians being persecuted for their Christian faith. And while prayers of peace, comfort, and freedom for our fellow brothers and sisters is being sent from all corners of the world, there are those Christians and non- Christians alike that are saying they would take-up arms or do whatever it takes to protect their families and their Christian beliefs. For many non-Christians to respond like that is a no-brainer. But for a Christian… Our faith is everything If we are believers in Christ, our most sacred treasure, and one of our most important messages that we evoke, is our faith in God. But when it comes to God, faith is a big word. It’s a covenant between God and all His people whereby when we extol our abiding faith in Him, in return we receive His wonderful merit, His never-ending love, and His all-consuming grace. A covenant is an agreement; a contrac...

Is Technology Helping Or Hindering Religion?

I came across the above advice recently and while it's done in jest it got me thinking, from a religious standpoint, about the pros and cons of technology and whether or not it's helping or hindering religion. It’s no secret that technology has made it possible for the gospel to reach people in ways never imagined before thereby, on one hand, making technological advances pretty essential for religion as a whole. On the other hand when we see things like the saying above, we are seeing technology doing to religion the exact opposite of growth, and someone who’s recommending people who are lonely or feeling forgotten to turn to Facebook instead of God, is a perfect example of this. So do the pros of technology in religion outweigh the cons? The long arm of technology As Christians it’s our responsibility to spread God’s message and word, plus how through Christ we’re able to live this earthly life living with and in God’s divine grace rather than law. ...
