3 Good Things That Can Come From Suffering According To God's Word

Suffering, it’s a pretty ugly word isn’t it? Just the mere thought of the word can bring about suffering to some.

It’s not hard to find, is non-discriminatory, knows no boundaries, can come-on suddenly or take time to develop, and can be short or long-term.

And there are three things that are pretty consistent with suffering:

  1. You’ll experience some form of suffering during your lifetime
  2. You’ll know others who’ll experience suffering
  3. Satan loves it and hates it when we suffer because for some suffering takes them further from God while others who experience suffering draw nearer to Him

The many faces of suffering

Suffering, like the many people it inflicts, has many faces and comes in all kinds of shapes, sizes, and colors, including:

  • Physical illness and/or disabilities
  • Mental illness and/or disabilities
  • Death
  • Disaster
  • Divorce
  • Job loss
  • War
  • Violence
  • Not receiving any love
  • Not being cared for
  • Hurtful words
  • Bullying
  • Racism
  • Hunger
  • Homelessness
  • Addictions

And the list goes on-and-on.

It seems to me as time goes by the suffering taking place throughout the world only escalates, with no hope whatsoever for many.

As each day ends and a new one begins we draw ever closer to the end of time. The earth is a planet and all planets eventually die. This is fact and one of the very few things that most evolutionists and religious authorities alike can agree on!

And with any death comes suffering of some sort and the earth and its inhabitants are no different.

If you’re a Christian then you believe in Revelations, which clearly tells us the suffering we see taking place now is nothing compared to when Christ opens the scrolls.

But fear not, for you see, suffering can actually bring about some good too!

What God’s word tells us about the good side of suffering

You know it’s been my experience through life, and especially lately, that God’s word is not sometimes correct or usually right. No, I’ve come to realize that God’s word is always spot-on and when I take heed to it, it never does me wrong.

But how comforting it is to know that I can rely on God’s word to get me through my seasons of suffering!

One of my favorite passages in the bible talks of suffering, and for those who have faith the three good things that can come about as a result of it:

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” Romans 1:1-5

Sounds comforting to me!

I know that if and when I’m suffering and stand firm in my faith than that suffering can bring about:

  1. Perseverance
  2. Character
  3. Hope

And there we have it, the three good things that can come from suffering…

If you believe and have faith in God and Christ our Lord and Savior.

If you or someone you know is experiencing any kind of suffering and would like to have them prayed then by all means submit a prayer request, I’ll be more than happy to pray for you or them.

God Bless All!
Dana

A Short Story: Two Brothers, Two Fields, And A Stranger

Image courtesy:  prozac1 Good day all, I hope you are all in good spirits! Today’s message started-out as that, a message. But as I began putting pen to paper  The Lord spoke to me and as a result the message and the way I was going to deliver it today is completely different than what I intended. Instead of a short and simple message on the disadvantages of repetitive prayer, today’s message turned into a short story about prayer and so much more, including how we limit ourselves when only asking for God’s blessings in prayer. It’s the often the little things that can have the biggest impacts on a person’s life, and how lives can be completely changed in one season. Two Brothers, Two Fields, and a Stranger Some time ago an old Christian man, that many looked-up too and admired as a committed man of faith, was about to breathe his last. This old Christian had two sons and he called them in one day to give them each their inheritanc...

Could You Kill Someone Who's Persecuting You?

Image courtesy of  evangelicaloutpost.com It’s no secret now that in Mosul Iraq there are Christians being persecuted for their Christian faith. And while prayers of peace, comfort, and freedom for our fellow brothers and sisters is being sent from all corners of the world, there are those Christians and non- Christians alike that are saying they would take-up arms or do whatever it takes to protect their families and their Christian beliefs. For many non-Christians to respond like that is a no-brainer. But for a Christian… Our faith is everything If we are believers in Christ, our most sacred treasure, and one of our most important messages that we evoke, is our faith in God. But when it comes to God, faith is a big word. It’s a covenant between God and all His people whereby when we extol our abiding faith in Him, in return we receive His wonderful merit, His never-ending love, and His all-consuming grace. A covenant is an agreement; a contrac...

Is Technology Helping Or Hindering Religion?

I came across the above advice recently and while it's done in jest it got me thinking, from a religious standpoint, about the pros and cons of technology and whether or not it's helping or hindering religion. It’s no secret that technology has made it possible for the gospel to reach people in ways never imagined before thereby, on one hand, making technological advances pretty essential for religion as a whole. On the other hand when we see things like the saying above, we are seeing technology doing to religion the exact opposite of growth, and someone who’s recommending people who are lonely or feeling forgotten to turn to Facebook instead of God, is a perfect example of this. So do the pros of technology in religion outweigh the cons? The long arm of technology As Christians it’s our responsibility to spread God’s message and word, plus how through Christ we’re able to live this earthly life living with and in God’s divine grace rather than law. ...
